The 9th grade AVID curriculum focuses on refining our AVID practices and methods while also focusing much of our curriculum on self-awareness and self-exploration. Some students are joining AVID with no prior experience while some may have participated in AVID in another school district or at another Snowline site. Either way, we start with learning the basic WICOR strategies:
- Writing: Responding through written form is a craft of not only vocabulary acquisition but through a continual revision process.
- Inquiry: Developing higher-ordered thinking questions keeps students curious and helps with our weekly tutoring sessions.
- Collaboration: In building a sense of community among our AVID peers, we learn how to support each other in achieving greatness.
- Organization: Recognizing hurdles or obstacles within our time-management and goal setting practice is important for success.
- Reading: Discovering the meaning of text allows AVID students to challenge themselves with advanced coursework.
